Kayrros | Alternative data provider Profile

Geospatial AI firm turning satellite data into asset-level energy and environmental intelligence for traders, insurers and regulators.

The LSE Directory / Alternative data

Kayrros is a Paris-headquartered geospatial intelligence company that applies artificial intelligence and machine learning to satellite and other Earth-observation data to track industrial and human activity and its environmental footprint. Its platform draws on more than 40 satellite constellations (optical, infrared, hyperspectral and SAR) plus other geolocation, IoT and ground-based sources, processing over 1 billion data points a day to monitor more than 100 million physical assets worldwide, including oil and gas wells, LNG terminals, power plants, solar and battery storage sites, and forests. The company organizes its offering into two lines: Risk Solutions (wildfire, deforestation, methane, forest carbon and vegetation monitoring) aimed at insurers, regulators and corporates managing physical and transition climate risk, and Energy Solutions (crude oil, LNG, renewable energy and battery storage construction monitoring, E&P and on-road demand intelligence) aimed at commodity traders, energy operators and financial institutions. Its differentiator against conventional data vendors is asset-level, near-real-time measurement tied to physical infrastructure rather than self-reported company or government statistics, letting clients independently verify production, storage and emissions instead of relying on disclosures. Kayrros was founded in 2016 by Antoine Rostand, Antoine Halff, Alexandre d'Aspremont, Jean-Michel Lasry and Laurent El Ghaoui, a group with backgrounds spanning energy, commodities, finance and applied mathematics; the company's name comes from Kairos, the Greek god of the opportune moment. It raised roughly 72 million euros in total funding between 2016 and a March 2022 round of 40 million euros backed by Bpifrance, BNP Paribas, NewSpace Capital and the European Investment Bank. By its own account the firm employs more than 150 people across offices in Paris, London, New York, Houston, Singapore and Bangalore, and serves over 100 clients with a combined market value of roughly 3 trillion dollars, including the UN Environment Programme's International Methane Emissions Observatory, the International Energy Agency, insurer AXA and carbon-ratings firm BeZero Carbon. Its methane-detection work has been cited for identifying understated Russian gas-sector emissions in 2021 and roughly 1,000 global super-emitter sites, including major leaks in Turkmenistan, in 2023. On 21 May 2026, UK-based energy market intelligence firm Energy Aspects completed its acquisition of Kayrros, first announced in March 2026, combining Energy Aspects' market analysis with Kayrros' satellite monitoring and analytics under one group; deal terms were not disclosed.
