The LSE Directory / Alternative data

LSEG Data and Analytics is the data, analytics and news division of London Stock Exchange Group, built on the Refinitiv business that London Stock Exchange Group acquired from a Blackstone led consortium and Thomson Reuters in an all share deal valued at 27 billion dollars, completed on 29 January 2021. The standalone Refinitiv brand has since been retired; former Refinitiv operations now sit across LSEG Data and Analytics (market data, news and analytics), LSEG Risk Intelligence (screening and due diligence, formerly World-Check) and FTSE Russell (benchmarks and indices), with no contractual change for existing customers, only rebranding. The division supplies cross-asset real-time and historical market data, pricing and reference data, company fundamentals, analyst estimates, exclusive Reuters news, and alternative and sentiment analytics, delivered primarily through LSEG Workspace, the browser and desktop terminal that replaced Eikon from August 2023, plus a range of direct feeds and APIs including a CodeBook Python environment for building on LSEG data in Jupyter notebooks. Within alternative data specifically, LSEG MarketPsych Analytics applies natural language processing to thousands of curated news outlets and financial social media sources, ingesting roughly 2 million articles a day to produce sentiment, emotion (optimism, fear, uncertainty) and thematic scores refreshed as often as every 60 seconds; a related product, StarMine MarketPsych Media Sentiment, packages the same signal for equity research workflows. This differentiates the division from vendors that sell price feeds alone: its news, fundamentals, estimates and sentiment layers are sold as one integrated Workspace ecosystem aimed at traders, portfolio managers, analysts and wealth advisors rather than at retail investors. LSEG states its Data and Analytics business reaches over 40,000 customers and 400,000 end users across roughly 190 markets, with Reuters as its exclusive news source for global financial markets. The parent group, London Stock Exchange Group plc, is headquartered in London, employs more than 26,000 people across 65 countries, and reported total group income of 8,986 million pounds for 2025, with Data and Analytics organic revenue growth of 5.0 percent that year; the division sits alongside FTSE Russell, Risk Intelligence, Markets and Post Trade as one of the group's five reporting segments. David Schwimmer has led London Stock Exchange Group as chief executive since 2018, a tenure spanning the Refinitiv acquisition and integration and the 2023 rebrand of Refinitiv branded products, starting with the Workspace terminal, under the LSEG name.
