Placer.ai (legally Placer Labs Inc.) is a location intelligence and foot traffic analytics platform that estimates visits to physical points of interest across the United States. It builds these estimates from an anonymised panel of tens of millions of mobile devices, collected through an SDK embedded in partner apps and supplemented by third-party location data sources, then applies machine learning to model visitation, trade areas, capture rates, audience demographics and migration patterns. Property-level polygon mapping underpins the platform, which the company states achieves over 92% accuracy in visit categorisation. Output is delivered through a self-serve web application, a set of free tools (Chain Analysis, Industry Trends, Points of Interest, Placer 100), a REST API (PAPI), flat file feeds and Snowflake data sharing, plus a Data Marketplace offering supplementary third-party datasets covering crime trends, planned developments, demographics and consumer expenditure. The company targets organisations that need offline-world analytics comparable to e-commerce clickstream data: commercial real estate firms, retailers, restaurant chains, consumer packaged goods companies, investors and advertisers, plus civic and economic-development bodies, healthcare and higher-education institutions. Its differentiation is breadth rather than a single niche; where many mobility-data vendors sell a narrow feed, Placer.ai packages the raw device panel into a self-serve analytics product covering more than ten verticals and has expanded from pure foot traffic into adjacent layers such as local crime data and planned real-estate developments, positioning itself as a general location-intelligence platform rather than a single-purpose foot-traffic tool. Placer Labs was founded in 2016 in Tel Aviv by Noam Ben-Zvi (CEO), Oded Fossfeld (CTO), Zohar Bar-Yehuda (data scientist) and Ofir Lemel (CPO), and spent roughly two years in stealth before launching its commercial platform in 2018. The company is headquartered in Los Altos, California, with an R&D office in Tel Aviv. Funding history includes a $50 million Series B around April 2021 and a $100 million Series C in January 2022 at a $1 billion valuation, the latter led by Josh Buckley with WndrCo, Fifth Wall Ventures, Lachy Groom, Array Ventures, MMC Technology Ventures and a group of commercial real estate investors; at that point it had around 1,000 paying customers, including JLL, Regency Centers, Taubman, Planet Fitness, BJ's Wholesale Club and Grocery Outlet. By mid-2024 it had raised a further $75 million, lifting its valuation to about $1.45 billion, with GEM Realty Capital among the investors on a cap table the company says exceeds 50 firms and individuals. Placer.ai reported reaching $100 million in annual recurring revenue in February 2024, alongside more than 4,000 customers, and was ranked 160th on Deloitte's 2024 Technology Fast 500. In February 2026 Placer.ai expanded a data partnership with Bloomberg to add new data entitlements, and separately partnered with The Retail Strategy to connect its location analytics with commercial real estate deal execution; the following month it was named to Forbes' 2026 list of America's Best Startup Employers. Its figures are a regular citation source in business and consumer-trend reporting; outlets citing Placer.ai data in early 2026 include the Los Angeles Times, Business Insider, Commercial Observer, Forbes, CNBC and Barron's, mostly on retail foot traffic, mall performance and brand strategy.
