The LSE Directory / Charting platforms
Finviz, short for Financial Visualizations, is a web-based market research platform built around a customisable stock screener that filters equities and ETFs by descriptive criteria (exchange, sector, industry, country, market cap), fundamentals (P/E, PEG, EPS growth) and technicals (moving averages, RSI, price performance). Around the screener it offers colour-coded heat maps of sector and index performance, multi-layout charting with technical studies, aggregated news headlines pulled from outlets such as Reuters, Bloomberg, MarketWatch and CNBC, an insider-trading tracker, an economic and earnings calendar, and portfolio tracking. Coverage extends beyond US-listed stocks and ETFs to futures, forex, crypto and bond yields. Finviz's differentiator within the charting and screening category is its density and price point: most of the platform, including the screener and the heat maps, is free to use with 15 to 20 minute delayed quotes, which has made it a common entry point for retail traders and a frequently cited reference tool in financial media rather than a terminal aimed at institutions. A paid Elite subscription, priced at 39.50 USD per month or 299.50 USD per year on the vendor's own pricing page, adds real-time and pre/after-market data (4:00 to 9:30 AM and 4:00 to 8:00 PM), intraday and multi-layout charts, custom price/insider/news/SEC-filing alerts, Excel and API export, up to 100 portfolios of up to 500 tickers each, and eight years of financial statement history versus three years on the free tier. The site was founded in 2007 by Juraj Duris, and its heat-map feature, one of its most recognisable tools, launched the same year and has been iterated on since, including new Dow Jones, Nasdaq 100 and Russell 2000 specific maps and month-to-date and insider-transaction filters added in a September 2025 update described on the company's own blog. Independent company-data sources vary on where Finviz is headquartered, and a separately registered Slovak entity, Finviz s.r.o., appears in Slovak corporate records; this profile does not resolve that discrepancy. As of mid-2026 the free 7-day Elite trial converts automatically to a paid subscription unless cancelled, and the product continues to be positioned as a free-first screener and visualisation tool rather than a data vendor, with Elite functioning as the monetisation layer for real-time access and export.
