The LSE Directory / Charting platforms
Highcharts Stock is a commercial JavaScript charting library from the Norwegian company Highsoft AS, built as a finance-focused extension of Highsoft's Highcharts Core library. It renders candlestick, OHLC, Heikin Ashi and hollow-candlestick charts, includes a navigator series for scrolling and zooming through long price histories, automatic data grouping for high-volume series, and a stock-tools panel that lets end users draw annotations and apply statistical overlays without developer involvement. Because it is a client-side rendering library rather than a data vendor, it ships with no market data of its own; the developer integrating it supplies price and volume feeds from whatever source they already use. Within the charting-library category, Highcharts Stock differentiates itself by bundling more than 40 built-in technical indicators, among them SMA, MACD, RSI, Bollinger Bands, Parabolic SAR, Pivot Points and Ichimoku Kinko Hyo, directly into the library rather than requiring separate plugins. It targets software teams building trading platforms, investment dashboards and market-data products who need production-grade charting without building indicator math or candlestick rendering themselves. It ships official integrations for React, Angular, Vue, Svelte, TypeScript and Node.js, and is licensed per developer seat rather than sold as a hosted service: as of mid-2026, Highsoft's published pricing lists an Internal license and a SaaS license for Highcharts Stock, both sold as an add-on on top of a Highcharts Core license, alongside custom OEM pricing for products redistributed to third parties. Highcharts, the core library, was created by Torstein Honsi, a Norwegian former geologist who had worked on North Sea oil rigs, who wrote the original charting script in his spare time and commercialized it as Highsoft AS in 2009. Highsoft remains headquartered in Vik i Sogn, Norway, and Honsi continues to serve as the company's listed founder and Chief Product Officer. Highsoft describes itself as bootstrapped, with no outside venture funding taken. On its own site, Highsoft states Highcharts is used by 50,000 plus customers across more than 140 countries, including 80 of the top 100 global companies, with the library logging more than 3.1 million weekly npm downloads. In the finance sector specifically, Highsoft names Bank of America, BNP Paribas, Citi, ICBC, FNZ and MUFG as users of its charting products, alongside the New York Fed for economic research charts. Highcharts Stock is one of several specialised modules sold alongside Highcharts Core, the others include Maps, Gantt, Dashboards and Grid Pro, and continues to be maintained and released on the same annual licensing cycle as the rest of the Highsoft product line as of mid-2026.
