The LSE Directory / Crypto exchanges
Bitpanda is a Vienna, Austria based fintech that operates a retail investing and trading app covering cryptocurrencies, stocks, ETFs and precious metals (gold and silver) from a single account. The platform supports fractional trading, recurring savings plans, crypto staking, and a Visa issued debit card that lets holders spend crypto, metal or fiat balances directly. It also runs Bitpanda Academy, a free educational hub on investing and crypto aimed at first time retail users. Where Bitpanda differs from single asset crypto exchanges such as Coinbase or Kraken is its dual structure. Alongside the consumer app, a business unit called Bitpanda Technology Solutions, marketed as Bitpanda Enterprise, licenses the same trading, custody, wallet and staking infrastructure to banks and fintechs through a single API, so a partner can launch its own branded crypto or stock trading product without building the underlying plumbing. Confirmed users of this white label layer include N26, LBBW and Raiffeisenlandesbank, and, from 2026, IG Europe and Deutsche Borse Group's 360T venue. This regulated infrastructure business, built on a license portfolio the company describes as 17 authorizations across the EU, is the main way Bitpanda positions itself against both pure retail crypto exchanges and pure B2B custody providers. Bitpanda was founded in 2014 in Vienna as Coinimal GmbH by Eric Demuth, Paul Klanschek and Christian Trummer, rebranding to Bitpanda GmbH in 2018. It became Austria's first unicorn after a March 2021 Series B (160 million dollars at a 1.2 billion dollar valuation) and reached a 4.1 billion dollar valuation four months later in an August 2021 Series C that raised 263 million dollars, with investors including Valar Ventures, Alan Howard, Jump Capital and LeadBlock Partners. The company now serves more than 7 million users across Europe. It holds MiCAR crypto asset service provider licenses from Austria's FMA (April 2025), Germany's BaFin (January 2025) and Malta's MFSA, plus PSD2 e-money and MiFID II authorizations, giving it a passportable base to operate across all 27 EU member states. As of January 2026, Bloomberg reported that Bitpanda was preparing a Frankfurt IPO that could take place in the first half of the year, targeting a valuation in the four to five billion euro range and working with Goldman Sachs, Citigroup and Deutsche Bank as underwriters. Coverage of the move framed it as Bitpanda deliberately shedding a crypto only image in favor of a broader multi asset and infrastructure identity ahead of going public.
