MEXC is a centralised cryptocurrency exchange offering spot trading, USDT-margined and coin-margined futures, margin trading, staking and earn products, OTC trading, and token purchasing services. Its platform lists more than 3,000 digital assets, spanning major coins like Bitcoin and Ethereum alongside a large tail of smaller and newly launched altcoins, and it advertises zero-fee spot trading as a core part of its pricing model. The exchange positions itself around fast, broad token listings rather than the deep institutional order-book or prime-brokerage services some larger rivals emphasise; its own marketing describes a M.E.X.C. framework of trending token selection, frequent airdrops, low fees, and liquidity aimed at retail traders who want early access to newer altcoins. It was originally launched as MXC Exchange on 7 April 2018 by a team the company describes as quantitative traders from Wall Street, Japan and Europe together with blockchain practitioners, and rebranded to MEXC Global on 8 June 2021 as part of a stated compliance push. Public company-profile listings (Crunchbase, Cointime) identify Metin Mehmet Durgun as a co-founder. MEXC states it serves more than 40 million users across over 170 countries and reports roughly $1.5 trillion in trading volume over the twelve months to mid-2026, alongside total platform assets near $5 billion. The company operates from Victoria, Seychelles. Its regulatory record includes formal unauthorised-firm warnings: the UK Financial Conduct Authority added MEXC Global Ltd to its warning list in March 2024 (last updated June 2024) as a firm promoting financial services without FCA permission, and Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission added MEXC to its Suspicious Virtual Asset Trading Platforms Alert List on 15 March 2024 for targeting Hong Kong investors while unlicensed. The Seychelles Financial Services Authority has separately stated that MEXC Global Ltd, the entity historically associated with the platform, was struck off in August 2023 and dissolved in December 2024 without ever holding a Seychelles virtual-asset-service licence, and in a May 2026 press release identified MX Global Ltd as the entity operating the mexc.com platform and announced enforcement action against it for carrying on unlicensed virtual asset business from Seychelles. In April 2026, MEXC named Vugar Usi Zade as chief executive officer, promoting him from the chief operating officer role he had held at the exchange since late 2025; he previously served as COO of rival exchange Bitget and as chief marketing officer of the crypto news outlet BeInCrypto. The leadership change followed a period of reported year-on-year growth for MEXC and coincided with continued regulatory attention on the exchange's unlicensed status in several jurisdictions.
