The LSE Directory / Data providers

Barchart is a market data and technology vendor headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, providing real-time, delayed, and historical price data across equities, ETFs, mutual funds, futures, options, forex, indices, and cryptocurrencies. Its core commercial product, Barchart OnDemand, delivers this data through a set of REST APIs organized around price quotes, historical bars, options chains, corporate fundamentals, technical indicators, news, and SEC filings, alongside newer low latency streaming (Barchart Stream) and bulk historical replay products (Market Replay API and Market Replay Enterprise) aimed at backtesting and compliance workflows. Where many market data vendors focus purely on securities pricing, Barchart's differentiator is its depth in physical and derivatives commodity markets: grain and livestock cash prices, USDA report data, weather and geospatial feeds, and fuel data sit alongside standard financial instruments. Its cmdtyView platform, marketed under the "cmdty by Barchart" institutional brand since 2017, bundles this commodity data with charting, news, and a producerView CRM built for grain elevators, merchandisers, and commodity brokers rather than for equity day traders, a customer base distinct from consumer facing rivals. On the institutional side, Barchart's own site lists firms including Goldman Sachs, BTG Pactual, Webull, TradingView, and Money.net among the customers of its data and API infrastructure. Barchart's roots trace to Logical Systems Inc., which launched the Barchart.com online market data service in 1995, one of the earliest internet based sources for commodities and futures data; the present entity, Barchart.com, Inc., was formally incorporated in Chicago on February 8, 2000. The company grew through acquisition, including the 2001 purchase of the data and charting business from CRB/Bridge, the 2006 acquisition of United States Chart Company from futures trader Ken Roberts, and the 2011 purchase of Stockgroup Media's financial tools division; it became a day-one data provider on AWS Data Exchange in 2019. Barchart is privately held. Its current CEO, Mark Haraburda, has led the company since May 2016, while COO Andrew Lowdon has been with the firm since its 1995 founding. By its own published reach figures, Barchart.com draws over 4 million monthly active users and more than 40 million monthly page views. More recently, Barchart has pushed into AI assisted commodity analysis, embedding an assistant named Carl into cmdtyView to help grain merchandisers and analysts query market data and generate reports, part of a broader effort to layer generative AI tools onto its existing commodity and market data infrastructure.
