Fixer is a REST JSON API that provides real time and historical foreign exchange rate data and currency conversion for 170 world currencies, quoted against the euro by default. The API exposes endpoints for the latest rates, point in time historical rates going back to 1 January 1999, time series data across a date range, direct currency conversion, and fluctuation data between two dates, and it also returns rates for bitcoin, gold and silver alongside fiat currencies. The service targets developers and businesses that need a lightweight, drop in forex data feed for finance apps, e-commerce checkout pricing, accounting software and reporting tools, rather than institutional trading desks. Free tier access is restricted to EUR as the base currency and 100 requests a month, while paid tiers unlock any base currency, HTTPS, and higher call volumes. Fixer differs from single source rate feeds by blending quotes from more than 15 banks and financial data providers, including the European Central Bank, into midpoint rates, and it is one of several sibling data products, alongside currencylayer, ipstack, weatherstack, marketstack and aviationstack, sold by the same operator rather than as a standalone company. Fixer is operated by APILayer, an API marketplace founded by brothers Julian and Paul Zehetmayr in Vienna, Austria. APILayer, formally apilayer Data Products GmbH, was acquired by Idera, Inc. in January 2021 and became part of Idera's Developer Tools business unit alongside Embarcadero, LANSA, Sencha, Whole Tomato, Froala and FusionCharts; deal terms were not disclosed. Fixer's own marketing states the API is used by more than 200,000 developers and companies, naming Microsoft, Samsung, Instacart and Bershka among its users. As of this research pass, Fixer is priced on five tiers: Free at $0 for 100 calls a month, Basic at $14.99 a month for 10,000 calls, Professional at $59.99 a month for 100,000 calls, Professional Plus at $99.99 a month for 500,000 calls, and a custom volume Enterprise tier above that, with a discount for annual billing on every paid tier.
