The LSE Directory / Data providers
S&P Global Market Intelligence is the data, research and analytics division of S&P Global Inc. (NYSE: SPGI). Its flagship product, S&P Capital IQ Pro, is a web-based platform delivering company fundamentals, consensus estimates, ownership data, credit ratings-linked analytics, fixed income pricing and news to finance professionals. The platform is delivered through a browser interface, a Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) plugin, a REST/JSON API, and Xpressfeed, a bulk data-feed management product for firms that load the data into their own systems. The division differentiates on the depth of its private-company and credit-market data: Capital IQ Pro covers more than 60 million private companies and over 66,000 public companies (about 49,000 with current financials), plus more than 26 million fixed income securities across municipal, government, sovereign, agency and corporate categories. This private-market and credit depth, alongside company comparables and M&A screening tools, is why investment banks, private equity and credit teams reach for the platform, positioning it differently from terminal-first competitors such as Bloomberg or LSEG Workspace that are built around real-time trading data first. Document Intelligence, the platform's AI layer built with Kensho (a machine-learning and NLP firm S&P Global acquired in April 2018 for approximately 550 million dollars) and extended with ProntoNLP sentiment analysis, reads earnings-call transcripts and private-market documents such as investment-committee packs and LP filings to surface trends automatically. The Capital IQ business, whose name the platform still carries, was founded in 1998 as an independent company-data provider and was acquired by Standard & Poor's in September 2004. In 2015 McGraw Hill Financial (S&P Global's former corporate name) acquired SNL Financial; S&P Capital IQ and SNL were combined and rebranded as S&P Global Market Intelligence on February 8, 2016, weeks before the parent company itself was renamed S&P Global Inc. on April 27, 2016. Market Intelligence generated about 4.92 billion dollars in revenue in 2025, roughly 37 percent of S&P Global's total revenue, up from 4.65 billion dollars in 2024. In March 2026, S&P Global expanded Capital IQ Pro with more than 4 million additional structured fixed income securities sourced from Markit, added Visible Alpha biopharma coverage for drug-pipeline and clinical-trial analysis, and announced the acquisition of Drift AI, an AI-powered Excel modeling tool being integrated into the platform's Excel Plugin.
