The LSE Directory / Data providers
Tiingo is an API-first financial market data provider founded in 2014 by Rishi Singh. Its core product is a set of REST and WebSocket APIs delivering end-of-day equity, ETF and mutual fund NAV prices with history reaching back to 1962, US company fundamentals sourced from SEC filings with 20-plus years of quarterly and annual data, a tagged financial news feed spanning equities, ETFs, forex and crypto, real-time intraday US stock data, and separate crypto and forex datasets. All datasets run through what the company describes as a proprietary error-checking and cleansing framework intended to catch bad prints, missing bars and unadjusted splits or distributions before they reach customers. Tiingo differentiates on infrastructure and pricing rather than breadth of asset classes. Its real-time equity feed comes from a direct physical cross-connect into the IEX exchange at an Equinix NY5 data center, giving it IEX top-of-book (TOPS) data rather than a resold, latency-added feed from an aggregator, with its own bare-metal servers (NVME storage, bonded 20 Gbps networking) located near the exchange rather than on a general-purpose cloud. Commercially it sells flat, capped-usage subscriptions rather than per-call or enterprise-negotiated pricing: a free Starter tier and a $30-per-month Power tier for individuals, with a separate $50-per-month tier for internal commercial use, undercutting institutional-grade vendors and targeting individual quants, retail investors, RIAs and small fintech teams who cannot justify a Bloomberg or Refinitiv contract. The company has taken no external funding according to Crunchbase and operates as a privately held, bootstrapped business. It describes its customer base as spanning individual investors up to pension and hedge funds, and lists academic and financial-education partnerships alongside its commercial product. It is a listed data and infrastructure partner of Fintech Sandbox, the nonprofit that gives startups free access to data-provider APIs. It has no dedicated Wikipedia entry as of this research; it should not be confused with Tingo Group, an unrelated, similarly spelled Nasdaq-listed agrifintech company. Tiingo's product catalogue as of mid-2026 covers on the order of 80,000 to 100,000-plus global securities (US and Chinese equities, ETFs and mutual funds) under its EOD API, with the exact published symbol count varying by tier and by page on its own site. Its news API applies its own natural-language tagging to build a searchable, cross-asset-class feed rather than simply relaying wire copy.
