The LSE Directory / Data providers
YipitData is a New York based market intelligence firm that collects and cleans large volumes of consumer and business transaction data and turns it into research reports, dashboards, and data feeds that estimate the underlying performance of individual companies. Its inputs include a proprietary, wholly owned consumer receipt panel of more than 11 million people, web scraped data, card transaction data, B2B and cloud spend data, and survey data, aggregated from more than 40 always on sources. The firm says it now tracks metrics on more than 500,000 companies and covers roughly 1.8 trillion dollars of B2B spend, and it has recently added an "AI Insight Agent" feature that lets clients query the underlying transaction data directly rather than reading only static reports. YipitData's differentiator versus other alternative data vendors is owning its data collection end to end rather than reselling third party panels, combined with an in-house analyst layer that converts raw data into named, ready to use metrics (for example same-store sales or market share estimates) instead of leaving clients to build models from raw feeds themselves. It sells into four distinct buyer types: hedge funds and asset managers who use the estimates ahead of earnings, corporate strategy, sales, and category management teams who use it for competitive benchmarking, private equity and venture capital firms for portfolio and diligence work, and investment banks for M&A advisory. Sector coverage as marketed today spans retail, home improvement, beauty and personal care, toys and games, consumer electronics, apparel, pet care, and AI and technology companies. The company was founded in 2013 in New York, evolving out of an earlier 2010 venture called Yipit, and is led by co-founder and CEO Vinicius Vacanti alongside a leadership team that includes President James Hart, CFO Steve Seperson, CRO Jamie Melzer, and CTO Steve Pulec. It has grown to more than 750 employees globally and says it serves over 650 investors, brands, and retailers; its marketing names Walmart, Fiskars, and Worthington among its customers. In December 2021 it raised up to 475 million dollars in a Series E round led by The Carlyle Group, a deal that pushed its valuation above 1 billion dollars, giving the company unicorn status; Carlyle's investment was earmarked for product development and expansion into new market sectors. YipitData's current positioning leans on generative AI as a query layer on top of its existing transaction data rather than as a new data source, marketed as a way for non-technical users at client firms to ask natural language questions of the underlying panels instead of waiting on an analyst-written report.
