Al Bentley is the founder and chief executive officer of Simply Wall St, a Sydney-based financial technology company that turns fundamental company data into visual "snowflake" analysis charts for retail investors. Trained as a naval architect and chartered engineer (UK Engineering Council) at the University of Southampton, he spent the early part of his career working on ships, offshore platforms and FPSO vessel projects for oil and gas firms including Apache Energy, Santos and Tullow Oil in Australia and England. A self-taught coder, Bentley built the original prototype of what became Simply Wall St (initially called Ninjavest) as a side project during a 2013 startup weekend in Sydney while teaching himself to invest, and grew it into a subscription investing-research platform used by millions of investors worldwide. He continues to lead the company as CEO from its Sydney headquarters.
