Daniel Mirkin is the co-founder and CEO of Trade Ideas, a real-time stock market scanning and idea-generation platform for active traders, which he built with Philip Smolen starting in 2002-2003. Born in Leningrad (present-day St. Petersburg), Russia, he immigrated to the United States as a child in 1978 and later studied accounting at the University of Texas at Austin before further study in finance at the London School of Economics. Mirkin began his trading career in the mid-1990s as a SOES (Small Order Execution System) trader, an experience he has credited with shaping the real-time, technology-driven approach behind Trade Ideas. He has led the company, best known for its AI trading assistant "Holly," without outside venture investment, growing it organically into a team of roughly 25 people based in Carlsbad, California.
