Dr Hugh Christensen (born November 1979) is a British data scientist and entrepreneur who founded BMLL Technologies in 2014 as a spin-out from machine learning and information engineering research he conducted at the University of Cambridge, in collaboration with several financial exchange groups. He holds undergraduate and master's degrees from Christ Church, Oxford, and a PhD in Information Engineering from the University of Cambridge, where his work applied machine learning, signal processing, information theory, econometrics and statistical computing to real-world problems, particularly limit order book data. He served as a director of BMLL from its incorporation in April 2014 until June 2019, growing it into one of the industry's leading providers of harmonised Level 3 historical market data and analytics before exiting the company in 2020. He subsequently moved into data leadership roles at Amazon Web Services, based in London.
