The LSE Directory / Fundamental data

BamSEC is a web based research platform that lets investment professionals search, read and extract data from US Securities and Exchange Commission filings on EDGAR and from public company earnings call and event transcripts. The platform indexes full text across both document types, so a user can search a phrase or financial term across a single company's entire filing and transcript history, or across a sector, in one query. Its table tools let users pull tables directly out of a filing or transcript into Excel, and compare or merge the same table across multiple reporting periods without re-keying numbers, alongside highlighting, shareable deep links to a specific passage of text, saved email alerts, and company screening tools. BamSEC's specialty is depth and speed inside a narrow document set, SEC filings and earnings transcripts, rather than the broader alternative data or expert network content sold by its current parent, AlphaSense. It is built around the day to day workflow of equity and credit research: locating exactly how a company's management described a specific metric or risk factor across several years of calls, or pulling a historical table series into a model without manual data entry. Its customer base splits between sell side investment banks, which use it for coverage research, and buy side firms, including private equity and credit investors, which use it for diligence and comparable company work, alongside individual investors who subscribe directly. BamSEC was founded in Chicago in 2013 by Stan Mishchenko, who served as CEO, and co-founder Luyi Zhao. By the time of its 2021 sale it was used by more than 100,000 investors and bankers across hundreds of financial institutions each month, according to the acquisition announcement, with named clients including Barclays, J.P. Morgan, Jefferies and Evercore on the sell side and Apollo, Carlyle and KKR on the buy side. Tegus, a financial research platform, agreed to acquire BamSEC in October 2021 and completed the purchase on December 15, 2021; financial terms were not disclosed. Tegus was in turn acquired by AlphaSense, with that deal closing on July 8, 2024 in a transaction that valued Tegus at 930 million dollars, alongside a 650 million dollar funding round that valued the combined AlphaSense at 4 billion dollars. BamSEC continues to operate as a distinct product inside the combined company, marketed as BamSEC by Tegus, with its filings and transcript search offered alongside AlphaSense's own AI powered search across broker research, expert call transcripts and other content types.
