The LSE Directory / Fundamental data
Calcbench is a New York based financial data company that parses XBRL tagged SEC filings, including 10-K annual reports, 10-Q quarterly reports, 8-Ks, proxy statements and earnings press releases, and turns every numeric line item and footnote disclosure into structured, searchable data. New filings are processed within minutes of hitting the SEC's system, and each figure links back to the exact spot in the original document it came from, so users see what a company actually reported rather than a since-restated number. The platform covers more than 12,000 listed US companies with history back to 2009, and data reaches users through a web application, an Excel add-in, a Google Sheets add-in and an API. Where broad fundamentals vendors typically stop at the income statement, balance sheet and cash flow summary, Calcbench goes into the footnotes and disclosure tables that most databases discard, and it preserves point-in-time snapshots so a researcher can reconstruct exactly what was known on any given filing date. That combination targets users who need filing-level precision rather than a normalized dataset: buy-side and sell-side analysts, quantitative researchers, auditors, corporate finance teams, academics and regulators. According to XBRL US, the nonprofit steward of the SEC's XBRL taxonomy, Calcbench's client base includes government agencies (the SEC itself among them) alongside sell-side and buy-side firms and audit, tax and advisory firms. The company was founded in 2011 by Pranav Ghai (CEO) and Alex Rapp (CTO), former college roommates and financial analysts who built their first XBRL parsing prototype within a week of a chance conversation with Campbell Pryde, then of XBRL US, about the newly mandated filing standard. Early traction included an XBRL-related contest win and MassChallenge finalist status, with Credit Suisse, the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board and Workiva among its early clients; the company later won a competitive SEC contract, in 2015, to serve as a financial data provider to the agency. Other leadership named on the company's site includes Ariel Markelevich, Chief Product Development Officer, and the firm maintains offices in New York and Cambridge, Massachusetts. The CFA Institute Research Foundation has partnered with Calcbench under its Investment Data Alliance to give CFA Institute members complimentary, systematic access to XBRL data drawn from SEC filings, a partnership Calcbench cites as reaching the CFA charterholder population worldwide.
