The LSE Directory / Fundamental data
Grata is a private market intelligence platform that provides data and deal-sourcing software on privately held companies, used by dealmakers to find, research and track acquisition targets that typically do not appear in public filings or conventional financial databases. The platform indexes company websites, business registries, transaction records and other public and licensed sources using machine learning and natural language processing, then layers on a search interface that lets users query by attributes such as products, end markets, business model and ownership rather than by static industry codes alone. Following its most recent acquisition integration in May 2026, Grata's combined platform covers more than 23 million private companies and over 1 million recorded transaction events, alongside executive contact records, transaction history and CRM integrations for pipeline management. Grata differentiates on search technology rather than on raw data breadth alone. Instead of relying only on static SIC or NAICS industry codes, it indexes free-text descriptions of what each company actually does, drawn largely from the company's own website, so users can search for private businesses by product, customer type or business model. Co-founder Andrew Bocskocsky has described this as a response to the "tabular information" limits of legacy business databases. Its core customers are investment banks, private equity and growth equity firms, corporate development teams and management consultancies conducting deal sourcing and market mapping, with particular strength in middle-market and small private companies that are hard to surface through conventional industry classification or public-market data providers. Since its 2025 acquisition, Grata also draws on parent company Datasite's deal-activity data (Datasite says its M&A workflow business handles more than 55,000 projects a year) as an additional data source not available to standalone competitors. Grata was founded in New York in 2016 by Andrew Bocskocsky, a former Palantir forward-deployed engineer, and Nevin Raj, a former McKinsey consultant with private equity and investment banking experience. The company raised approximately 35 million dollars in seed and Series A funding from investors including Craft Ventures, Bling Capital, Flex Capital, Touchdown Ventures and Accomplice, most recently a 21.3 million dollar Series A round in January 2022. On June 3, 2025, Datasite, the M&A software group majority owned by CapVest Partners, acquired Grata outright, with CapVest committing 500 million dollars toward expanding Datasite's broader intelligence business; Grata continues to operate as a distinct business unit, with Bocskocsky and Raj remaining in leadership roles. Two months later, in August 2025, Datasite folded fellow deal-sourcing data provider Sourcescrub, which had covered more than 16 million companies across over 220,000 information sources, into the Grata platform. In May 2026, Datasite acquired Valu8, a Swedish private market intelligence firm covering roughly 70 million European companies and serving more than 600 customers concentrated in the Nordic region, and integrated it into Grata. The combination pushed the platform's total coverage past 23 million companies and 1 million transaction events and extended its reach into the UK, DACH, Iberia and Benelux markets, continuing Grata's build-out into a broader international private-markets data business under Datasite.
