The LSE Directory / Fundamental data
Insider Monkey is a financial media and data platform that aggregates hedge fund 13F filings and corporate insider transaction disclosures from SEC filings, then publishes the resulting fund-holdings directory, insider buy/sell screeners and stock-idea articles for individual investors. The free side of the site includes a hedge fund resource center covering several hundred funds' quarterly 13F positions (fund pages such as Citadel, Pershing Square and Renaissance Technologies are indexed individually), a real time insider-transaction tracker showing which executives and directors bought or sold and at what price, and a stream of "smart money" stock-idea articles built from that data. A paid tier layers Quarterly and Monthly newsletters, using a proprietary stock-picking strategy, on top of the same underlying data. Where many 13F aggregators simply republish raw filing data, Insider Monkey's differentiator is a screening methodology, described on its own site as a "hybrid evaluation system," that its founder says he developed in 2003 to narrow the universe of insiders and funds down to those with a demonstrated edge, rather than surfacing every transaction unfiltered. The target audience is self directed retail investors rather than institutional subscribers, and the company monetizes the same data pipeline twice, through advertising and affiliate revenue on the free content and subscription revenue on the newsletters. The company was founded in 2010 by Dr. Ian Dogan (also referred to in some records as Inan Dogan), a financial economist with a PhD from the University at Buffalo who says he previously managed a fund exceeding 200 million dollars using insider-transaction strategies, together with Meena Krishnamsetty, a journalist formerly with Bloomberg Television and CNBC who serves as the site's editor and co-founder. Insider Monkey states its Quarterly Strategy newsletter launched in May 2014 and its Monthly Newsletter in March 2017, and cites its own multi-year backtested and live track records for both on its site; these are the company's own performance claims and have not been independently audited here. Third party company directories (LinkedIn, ZoomInfo and others) list the company's headquarters in Edgewater, New Jersey with roughly 11 to 50 employees, while the company's own About page currently lists a New York City mailing address; the two locations were not reconciled in this research pass. The site describes itself as reaching approximately 2 million readers a month and tracking more than 59,000 insiders' SEC filings, and Dr. Dogan is credited as a contributor to the insider trading chapter of "The Handbook of Investment Anomalies," published by Zacks Investment Research.
