The LSE Directory / Fundamental data

Mergent is a business and financial data provider owned by FTSE Russell, the index and data division of the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG). Its flagship product, formerly branded Mergent Online and now delivered through the successor platform Mergent Market Atlas, provides detailed profiles on global public and private companies: standardized and as-reported financial statements, fundamental ratios, end-of-day pricing, consensus estimates, FTSE Russell Index returns, ICB industry classifications, ESG ratings, SEC and SEDAR filings, annual reports, executive and director data, and bond records. The platform covers more than 50,000 active publicly traded companies and a data set the company describes as exceeding 280 million records. Mergent specializes in the academic and library research market rather than the professional trading-desk terminal market occupied by rivals such as Bloomberg or S&P Capital IQ. Its subscriptions are sold institutionally to university, public, and corporate libraries, with data exportable to Excel for classroom and research use. A key differentiator is historical depth: Mergent Archives, a companion product, holds annual reports dating back to 1844 and the original Moody's Manuals (Industrial, Bank and Finance, Public Utility, and Transportation), with volumes dating to the early 1900s, material that predates the digitized coverage most institutional data terminals offer. The Mergent name traces to Moody's Investors Service's publishing business: Dun and Bradstreet sold that manuals unit to Financial Communications in 1998, which renamed it Mergent in 1999. FTSE Russell, part of LSEG, acquired Mergent in 2015 and folded it into LSEG's Information Services division alongside the core FTSE Russell index business. Mergent's operations are based in Fort Mill, South Carolina, with additional offices reported in New York, Charlotte, San Diego, London, Tokyo, Kuching, and Melbourne. Mergent Online was formally retired on August 15, 2025, after a parallel-run transition period, and replaced by Mergent Market Atlas, which the company describes as rebuilt on newer technology with a faster, easier to use interface. The successor platform carries forward the same company, fundamentals, filings, and FTSE Russell index content, and adds Dun and Bradstreet Country Risk Profiles and Country RiskLine reports; multiple university library research guides confirm the cutover took place during summer 2025.
