The LSE Directory / Fundamental data

Mergent, Inc. is a business and financial information provider that supplies company fundamentals, standardised financials and ratios, end of day pricing, corporate actions and historical securities documentation on public and private companies worldwide. Its core platform, Mergent Online, gives subscribers access to more than 280 million records covering company profiles, filings, ownership, capital structure and research reports, while a separate product, Mergent Archives, digitises historical annual reports, corporate manuals, industry reports and other filings dating back to 1844. The company differentiates itself through depth of historical and fixed income coverage rather than breadth of real time market data. Its dataset traces back to Moody's Manual of Industrial and Miscellaneous Securities, the reference publication John Moody first published in 1900, digitised over decades into a large historical archive. Rather than one all purpose terminal, Mergent segments its customer base across several products: Mergent Intellect for academic libraries and small business researchers, Mergent Market Atlas for company, industry, country, index, ESG and economic data analysis, Mergent Horizon for mapping competitors, suppliers and customers across more than 6,000 actively traded US public companies, and Mergent Business Press, a bookstore of print and digital reference titles including Dun and Bradstreet directories, Hoover's company handbooks, Harris manufacturing directories, and its own Bond Record, Dividend Record and Industry Review series. When London Stock Exchange Group agreed to acquire Mergent, announced 21 November 2016, the company was headquartered in Fort Mill, South Carolina, employed roughly 300 people worldwide (120 in Fort Mill), held more than 35 terabytes of data, and served about 4,000 customers globally, including data and analytics on 385,000 corporate bonds and 3.6 million US municipal bonds. Then CEO Jonathan Worrall described Mergent as a well established financial data provider that was small relative to billion dollar rivals such as Thomson Reuters and Bloomberg. The deal was expected to close by 31 January 2017, and the Mergent business now sits inside LSEG's Information Services Division alongside FTSE Russell. As London Stock Exchange Group has consolidated its group of data businesses under one umbrella, Mergent's fixed income database is now listed on platforms such as Wharton Research Data Services as LSEG Mergent FISD, alongside LSEG Refinitiv, LSEG IBES and LSEG FTSE Russell, reflecting Mergent's position as one of several legacy data brands operating inside LSEG rather than as a standalone company brand.
