The LSE Directory / Fundamental data
Seeking Alpha is a financial media and research platform that publishes stock and ETF investment ideas, analysis, and news sourced primarily from a community of independent contributors rather than an in-house team of sell-side analysts. Contributors submit articles disclosing their positions in the securities they cover, which Seeking Alpha's editors review for quality before publication. On top of that crowdsourced layer the platform runs a triple-rating system, Author Ratings (aggregated contributor sentiment), Wall Street Ratings (sell-side consensus) and its own proprietary Quant Ratings, alongside earnings call transcripts, dividend and REIT coverage, and stock and ETF screeners. The company's core differentiator against research aggregators such as Bloomberg or Morningstar is that editorial model: rather than employing analysts directly, it pays contributors based on subscriber engagement and readership, then overlays factor-based Quant Ratings, built from balance sheet, income statement and price data, so retail investors can weigh human commentary against a systematic score. Coverage runs to 8,000 to 10,000 tickers per quarter across roughly 5,000 articles a month, aimed at self-directed retail investors rather than institutional desks. Access is split between a free tier and paid Premium, PRO and Alpha Picks subscriptions, with Alpha Picks issuing two quant-selected model stock picks a month. Founded in 2004 by David Jackson, a former Morgan Stanley technology analyst, the company is headquartered in Ra'anana, Israel, with additional offices in New York, Ukraine and India, and lists roughly 170 employees. In January 2019 it acquired CressCap Investment Research, bringing on CressCap founder Steven Cress as head of quant strategies to build out the current Quant Ratings system. A 2014 study in the Review of Financial Studies, examining roughly 100,000 Seeking Alpha articles published from 2005 to 2012, found the platform's content predicted both future stock returns and earnings surprises. The platform has also drawn regulatory scrutiny: the SEC brought enforcement action in 2017 over stock manipulation schemes that used articles published on the site, after which Seeking Alpha tightened contributor identity verification and editorial review of suspicious content. Seeking Alpha has recently pushed further into AI-assisted research. It launched Virtual Analyst Reports in December 2024, a tool that synthesizes its crowdsourced analysis and Quant Ratings into single-click summaries covering over 3,000 U.S.-traded stocks, with CEO David Jackson framing it as combining "AI technology with our proprietary data and crowdsourced analysis." That was followed in October 2025 by Ask Seeking Alpha, an AI search assistant for PRO subscribers that surfaces the platform's ratings and research data through natural-language queries.
