The LSE Directory / Fundamental data
Sentieo was a San Francisco based financial and corporate research platform built for investment professionals, offering a natural language processing search engine over SEC and global filings, earnings call transcripts, broker research, investor presentations and news, alongside a financial data terminal, a research management notebook, and an alternative data module branded Mosaic. Alap Shah served as chairman and co-founder and David Lichtblau as CEO at the time of the company's acquisition. The platform's premise was to replace analysts' scattered manual search across PDFs, spreadsheets and terminals with a single searchable workspace. Sentieo's specialization was NLP-powered document discovery combined with a workflow layer, letting analysts search across both external content and their own firm's internal research, tag and annotate findings, and share them across a team through the Sentieo Notebook. This combination of search plus collaborative research management, rather than data delivery alone, was its stated differentiator against traditional financial data terminals, and it targeted hedge funds, mutual funds, investment banks and corporate strategy teams rather than retail users. AlphaSense completed its acquisition of Sentieo on May 10, 2022. At the time of the deal, Sentieo was used by more than 1,000 customers, including over 800 institutional investment firms. Sentieo continued to operate under its existing management as a wholly owned subsidiary of AlphaSense following the close, trading under the name Sentieo, an AlphaSense company. As of 2026, Sentieo's technology and branding have been substantially absorbed into the unified AlphaSense platform: capabilities that originated at Sentieo, including its Excel plug-in and Table Explorer for extracting data from financial statements, are now offered as part of AlphaSense's broader product line, which AlphaSense states draws on content from over 10,000 sources. AlphaSense itself was founded in 2011 by Jaakko (Jack) Kokko and Raj Neervannan and has grown into a market intelligence platform used by thousands of enterprise customers.
