The LSE Directory / Fundamental data
Stockopedia is a UK subscription platform built for individual, do-it-yourself investors who research and pick their own stocks. Its core product is a set of one-page StockReports covering more than 30,000 companies across upward of 60 global exchanges, paired with a screener built on 350-plus financial ratios that lets subscribers filter the market by any combination of valuation, quality, growth and momentum metrics. The platform also runs GuruScreens, pre-built filters that replicate the stated rules of well known value and growth investors, and Folios, a portfolio tracking tool that layers the same ranking data over a user's actual holdings. Stockopedia's central differentiator is StockRanks, a proprietary scoring system that rates every covered stock from 0 to 100 on three factors, Quality, Value and Momentum, then combines them into a single composite rank plus a RiskRating and style classification. Where most retail research tools present raw data and leave interpretation to the user, or institutional terminals price out individual subscribers, Stockopedia packages factor-investing methodology, the kind used inside quantitative funds, into a plain-language, self-service format aimed squarely at private investors rather than institutions or advisers. Underlying fundamental, estimate and price data is sourced from LSEG (formerly Refinitiv) and S&P Global Market Intelligence rather than compiled in house. The company was incorporated in Oxford, England in September 2007 as Stockopedia Ltd, founded by Ed Croft and David Brickell, who built the business after Croft's private portfolio was hit hard in the 2008 financial crisis and the pair spent several years studying academic research on factor returns and investor behaviour. The premium subscription platform launched in 2012, with StockRanks following in 2013 and US coverage added in 2014; the company later expanded data coverage into Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan. In October 2019, Stockopedia and fund manager Slater Investments jointly acquired Company REFS, a long-running UK stock data service originally created by Mark Slater's father, after its previous owner entered liquidation. Stockopedia opened a dedicated Australia and New Zealand operation around 2022 to 2023, led by market educators Elio D'Amato and Chris Batchelor, extending its retail-investor focus beyond its original UK and European base into the Australasian market.
