The LSE Directory / Fundamental data
TipRanks is a financial technology platform that collects and structures data most retail investors cannot easily see for themselves: sell-side analyst price targets and ratings, corporate insider transactions, hedge fund 13F activity, financial blogger and "finfluencer" opinions, and news sentiment. It runs this data through natural language processing and statistical scoring to grade the historical accuracy of individual analysts and commentators, then rolls the signals into a proprietary one-to-ten Smart Score for individual stocks. The platform covers US, Canadian, UK, Australian and German markets and is delivered as a web and mobile product with free and paid subscription tiers. Where traditional research terminals sell raw data feeds, TipRanks specialises in track-record accountability: ranking the analysts and bloggers behind a call rather than just relaying the call itself, so a user can weight advice by a forecaster's demonstrated hit rate. Its customer base spans both self-directed retail investors on its own site and app, and enterprise licensing to brokerages, banks and exchanges that embed TipRanks data and widgets into their own platforms; disclosed enterprise clients include Nasdaq, Robinhood, CIBC, Morgan Stanley, TD and eToro. In January 2023 the company acquired TheFly.com (The Fly), a real-time capital markets news wire in operation for over 25 years, for a reported 15 million dollars, extending its offering from analyst-accuracy scoring into breaking financial news. TipRanks was founded in 2012 by Uri Gruenbaum, who has said the idea grew out of losing a 20,000 dollar bonus after acting on a bad stock tip, together with co-founder Gilad Gat and with input from Cornell finance professor Roni Michaely; the company is headquartered in Tel Aviv. Prytek, an Israeli holding company, first invested in 2017 and led a 77 million dollar funding round in April 2021, bringing TipRanks' total capital raised to a reported 102 million dollars. In August 2024, Prytek increased its stake from 40 percent to 80 percent for 80 million dollars, valuing TipRanks at 200 million dollars and making Prytek the controlling shareholder; the remaining roughly 20 percent stayed with institutional investors including More Investment House and Analyst. Reported company figures around the deal cited over 6 million direct monthly active users and a combined reach of more than 50 million monthly users when counting distribution through partner banks and brokers, with roughly 120 employees at the time.
