Kenneth Cordele Griffin (born 1968) founded Citadel LLC in 1990 at age 22 with $4.6 million raised from friends and family, having started trading convertible bonds from his Harvard dormitory room. Citadel has grown into one of the world's largest and most consistently profitable hedge funds, managing approximately $58 billion with a multi-strategy approach spanning equities, fixed income, macro, credit, and quantitative strategies. In 2002 Griffin also co-founded Citadel Securities, which has become one of the world's largest market-makers, executing roughly 25% of all US-listed equity volume and a significant share of US equity options. Citadel's flagship Wellington fund delivered approximately 38% returns in 2022 while most peers posted losses, cementing Griffin's reputation. In 2022 Griffin relocated Citadel's headquarters from Chicago to Miami. He is a major political donor and arts philanthropist, having donated hundreds of millions to educational and cultural institutions.
