Stanley Freeman Druckenmiller (born 1953) is widely regarded as one of the greatest macro traders of all time, having managed money for 30 consecutive years without a single losing year. He served as the lead portfolio manager of George Soros's Quantum Fund from 1988 to 2000, during which he was the primary architect of the September 1992 short of sterling (Black Wednesday), Soros provided the capital and public profile, but Druckenmiller devised and executed the trade. He also managed his own Duquesne Capital from 1981, averaging approximately 30% annual returns over nearly three decades before closing the fund to outside investors in 2010, citing the psychological difficulty of managing institutional capital while trying to maintain performance. He continues to manage his own wealth through Duquesne Family Office and is known for his active commentary on macro markets, particularly US fiscal policy and the Federal Reserve. He has been outspoken about US government debt sustainability.
