Aspect Capital is a London-headquartered systematic investment manager that builds and runs computer-driven, research-based trading programmes across global futures, equity, fixed income, currency and commodity markets. Its offering is organised around three pillars: trend following, its flagship medium-term trend-capture approach across liquid global markets; absolute return, a multi-model, multi-asset programme combining several independent quantitative strategies; and customised solutions built with individual institutional clients from its broader model set. The firm reports more than $9 billion in assets under management and employs over 120 people, most of them in research and investment programme development. The firm differentiates itself through a hypothesis-driven research process, aiming to develop and test trading ideas on economic or behavioural rationale rather than pure historical curve-fitting, combined with systematic execution and quantitative risk management built into the pipeline end to end. It serves institutional investors, funds of funds and distribution partners rather than retail clients, and has pushed into markets less commonly covered by CTA peers, including Eastern European interest rate futures, additional regional energy markets and carbon emissions futures. In December 2024, its China unit, Aspect Capital (China) Limited, completed registration as a private securities fund manager with China's Asset Management Association (AMAC), which the firm states made it the first wholly foreign owned private securities fund manager licensed in that category. Aspect also holds B Corp certification, an unusual distinction among systematic futures managers. Aspect was founded in September 1997 by Anthony Todd, Martin Lueck, Michael Adam and Eugene Lambert; Todd and Adam had been introduced as physics practical partners at Oxford's Magdalen College, and Adam was a school friend of Lueck's. Lueck and Adam had previously co-founded Adam, Harding and Lueck (AHL), one of the earliest European systematic futures managers, later absorbed into what is now Man Group. Seeded largely by the fund of funds manager RMF, Aspect began trading its Diversified Programme in 1998 with about $22 million under management. Todd remains CEO, Lueck serves as Research Director, and Christopher Reeve, who joined the firm in 2005, is Chief Investment Officer. Aspect Capital Limited is authorised and regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority, has been registered with the US CFTC as a commodity trading advisor and commodity pool operator since October 1999, and has been registered with the SEC as an investment adviser since October 2003. Alongside its London headquarters, it maintains offices in Stamford, Connecticut and Shanghai. In January 2024, it partnered with Catalyst Funds to launch the Catalyst/Aspect Enhanced Multi-Asset Fund (CASIX), a US mutual fund vehicle for its strategies. Aspect was named European Asset Management Firm of the Year, in the sub-20 billion euro AUM category, at the Funds Europe Awards 2024, and won Risk.net's Quant Investment Firm of the Year in 2023 along with two trend-following category wins at the 2023 Hedge Fund Journal awards, recognition that tracks a broader rebound in trend-following CTA performance across 2022 to 2024.
