Schonfeld Strategic Advisors is a multi-strategy, multi-manager hedge fund headquartered in New York, with a second hub in Miami and additional offices in London, Tokyo and Dubai. It allocates capital to internal portfolio management teams across four core strategies: Quantitative, Fundamental Equity, Tactical Trading, and Discretionary Macro & Fixed Income, investing across five continents. As of mid-2026 the firm reports over $22 billion in assets under management, more than 140 portfolio manager teams, and over 1,100 employees. The firm's differentiator within the multi-manager, multi-strategy category (a peer group that includes firms like Millennium and Point72) is its systematic and algorithmic trading heritage: it grew out of a proprietary day-trading operation rather than a traditional discretionary stock-picking shop, and it still runs Quantbot Technologies, a systematic trading unit it founded in 2009 during its family-office period. Its platform model pairs internally built data, technology and risk infrastructure with dozens of autonomous PM teams trading independent books, a structure aimed at diversifying single-manager risk while retaining the speed and discipline of its trading-floor origins. The firm traces back to 1988, when Steven Schonfeld started what became Schonfeld Securities LLC, a proprietary day-trading firm, reportedly with around $400,000 earned from stockbroking work. The broker-dealer drew repeated regulatory action over the following two decades, including a $1.5 million NYSE fine in December 1999 for day-trading rule violations and a $1.1 million NYSE fine in 2009 tied to round-trip trades that concealed capital shortfalls; the broker-dealer entity was dissolved in 2009, when the operation converted into a family office managing Steven Schonfeld's own capital. It restructured again from 2015 as Schonfeld Strategic Advisors, began accepting outside investor capital, and registered with the SEC in January 2016. Ryan Tolkin has served as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer since January 2021. In 2024 its Strategic Partners Fund returned 19.7% and its Fundamental Equity Fund returned 21.1%; both funds again posted double-digit gains in 2025. In February 2026 the firm launched Triwood Asset Management, a second equities business unit operating under a separate trade name out of Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore and New York, running a long/short equity strategy focused on Asia-Pacific markets under Fundamental Equity portfolio manager Yasuhiro Tamaki, a nine-year Schonfeld veteran. The firm has also continued senior hiring in 2025 into 2026, adding Michael Grad (formerly of BlueCrest) as Chief Investment Initiatives Officer and announcing former Citadel CFO Andrew Philipp as incoming Co-President from September 2026.
