Old Mission Capital LLC is a privately held, Chicago-headquartered quantitative market maker. It operates through two SEC-registered, FINRA-member broker-dealer subsidiaries, Old Mission Capital LLC and Old Mission Markets LLC, both owned by parent company Old Mission Group LLC. The firm makes markets and provides liquidity across essentially every exchange-listed asset class, including equities, ETFs, listed options, futures, bonds and currencies, using proprietary pricing models and trading systems built in house. The firm built its platform starting in 2008 around a specific niche: pricing and trading illiquid, hard-to-value ETFs that other market makers could not efficiently quote. That expertise in modeling complex and thinly traded instruments remains its stated core differentiator; the company describes itself as built to operate in situations where competing market makers "cannot or choose not to participate." It has no outside investors and no external clients in the traditional asset-management sense; as a proprietary trading firm it trades its own capital rather than managing money for others, and organizes staff into three functions, quantitative trading, engineering and operations, that work together on each strategy rather than in silos. The firm has been led by CEO Joe Guzowski since February 2008; other named leadership includes Chief Operating Officer Erica Marquez Avitia, Chief Compliance Officer Steven J. Gaston, Chief Technology Officer Bryan Russina and Head of Legal Filip Zucek. Old Mission is headquartered at 1 North Dearborn Street in Chicago, a 38,000-square-foot, LEED Gold-certified office it moved into in 2021 that the firm said was more than triple the size of its prior space, and it maintains additional offices in New York (120 Broadway) and London (1 Finsbury Square). At the time of that 2021 Chicago expansion the firm reported more than 80 staff in the Chicago office alone, with roughly 25 new hires added in the prior year, alongside a 2020 expansion of its New York office and a new institutional business unit launched in January 2020.
