The LSE Directory / Index providers
ICE Data Indices, LLC (IDI) designs, calculates and administers a family of fixed income, equity, currency, commodity and mortgage indices for Intercontinental Exchange (NYSE: ICE), the operator of the New York Stock Exchange. Its best known product line is the ICE BofA index family, a set of fixed income benchmarks spanning US and global government, corporate, high yield, securitized and emerging market bonds. IDI also offers custom index construction and backtesting through its ICE Custom Index Tool, real time index calculation, and intraday net asset value (iNAV) calculation for exchange traded products. IDI's specialism is fixed income benchmark administration at scale rather than a single flagship index. Per ICE's own index solutions materials, its catalogue spans more than 8,500 indices, and ICE describes itself as the 2nd ranked provider globally by passive fund AUM in fixed income and 6th ranked index provider by AUM across all asset classes. Its customer base is asset managers (both passive and active), ETP sponsors and issuers, liquidity providers and custodians who license the indices as the basis for funds, derivatives and performance benchmarking, rather than individual investors. The ICE BofA indices trace back to bond indices originally published under the Merrill Lynch name, which were rebranded BofA Merrill Lynch after Bank of America's 2009 acquisition of Merrill Lynch. ICE agreed on June 1, 2017 to acquire the index platform from Bank of America Merrill Lynch's Global Research division, a business that at the time comprised more than 5,000 fixed income, currency and commodity indices benchmarking close to $1 trillion in AUM; the acquisition closed on October 20, 2017 and the indices were rebranded ICE BofAML, later shortened to ICE BofA. ICE now states the family benchmarks roughly $2.0 trillion in AUM, with its iNAV service supporting more than $7 trillion in ETP AUM and over 375 ETPs tracking its benchmarks; it also states more than $150 billion in ETP assets have transitioned onto ICE indices since the acquisition. ICE Data Indices, LLC has undergone independent assurance of its adherence to the IOSCO Principles for Financial Benchmarks. In June 2026, the European Securities and Markets Authority granted ICE Data Indices recognition as a third country benchmark administrator under the EU Benchmarks Regulation, covering the roughly 100 Climate Transition and Paris Aligned Benchmarks in its Climate Index series, which incorporate ESG screening and a carbon reduction methodology aimed at net zero by 2050. IDI is separately recognized as a third country benchmark administrator by the UK Financial Conduct Authority; ICE notes that some of the benchmarks it administers fall outside the current scope of the EU Benchmarks Regulation.
