The LSE Directory / Retail brokers
Selfwealth, now trading as "Selfwealth by Syfe," is an online share trading platform that provides flat-fee brokerage to Australian retail investors on the ASX, US markets (NYSE and Nasdaq) and Hong Kong-listed shares. Its core offering is a flat brokerage fee of AUD 9.50 per trade regardless of order size, alongside a self-directed trading interface, an Auto-Invest automated investing feature, cash management, minor (custodial) accounts and self-managed super fund (SMSF) trading accounts. The company is headquartered in Melbourne. Selfwealth differentiates itself from several newer low-cost Australian brokers through CHESS sponsorship: shares bought through the platform are registered directly to the investor via a Holder Identification Number (HIN) rather than pooled under a custodian's name, which the company markets as giving clients full legal and beneficial ownership rather than the custodial model used by some competitors. It holds Australian Financial Services Licence 421789 under the Corporations Act, and FNZ Custodians (Australia) Pty Ltd acts as its market participant and CHESS sponsor. The flat-fee structure and the platform's community origins target cost-conscious, self-directed retail investors and SMSF trustees rather than advisory or high-frequency traders. Selfwealth was founded in 2012, originally as an online community for investors to discuss share market investing before it added trading functionality, and listed on the Australian Securities Exchange in 2017 under the ticker SWF. On 7 May 2025 it was acquired by Singapore-based digital wealth platform Syfe in an all-cash deal that valued Selfwealth shares at 28 Australian cents each, reported at approximately A$65 million, after 99.7 percent of votes cast at an April 2025 shareholder meeting approved the transaction. Selfwealth was delisted from the ASX at completion and now operates as a privately held subsidiary while continuing to run its Melbourne operations. Syfe holds a Capital Markets Services Licence (CMS100837) regulated by Singapore's Monetary Authority, and states that the combined group manages over USD 10 billion in assets across the Asia-Pacific region following the deal; Selfwealth's own standalone user base is put at over 129,000 Australian investors. Following the acquisition, Selfwealth retained its AUD 9.50 flat brokerage and its platform brand unchanged, with the integration positioned as giving its existing Australian client base access to Syfe's broader suite of managed portfolios and cash and wealth products rather than replacing the Selfwealth trading platform itself.
