Kyla Scanlon (born 1997 in Louisville, Kentucky) is an American economic commentator, educator, and author who translates macroeconomics, Federal Reserve policy, and market mechanics into short-form videos and essays across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and her Substack newsletter. After triple-majoring in financial management, economics, and business data analytics at Western Kentucky University (2019) and working in asset management at Capital Group from 2019 to 2021, she founded the financial education company Bread. In June 2022 she coined the term "vibecession" to describe the gap between strong economic data and negative public sentiment, and in 2024 published the New York Times bestseller "In This Economy? How Money and Markets Really Work." She contributes to The New York Times Opinion, The Wall Street Journal, and Foreign Policy, appears on MSNBC and CNN, is a Vanderbilt Policy Accelerator Fellow, and says she has over one million followers combined across her platforms.
