Mohamed Aly El-Erian (born 1958) is an Egyptian-American economist who served as CEO and co-CIO of PIMCO (2007-2014), has been Chief Economic Adviser at Allianz since 2014, and was President of Queens' College, Cambridge from 2020 until his term ended in September 2025. A former IMF deputy director, he chairs Gramercy Fund Management, teaches as Professor of Practice at Wharton, chairs the Under Armour board, and writes as a Bloomberg Opinion columnist and Financial Times contributing editor. He authored the bestsellers When Markets Collide (FT/Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year 2008), The Only Game in Town, and Permacrisis (with Gordon Brown and Michael Spence), and is credited with popularizing the post-2008 term "new normal."
