The LSE Directory / Trading software

Iress is an Australian financial technology company that builds and licenses software for financial services firms rather than trading or managing money itself. Its two main product lines are trading and market data systems, sold under names including Iress Order System, Pro and ViewPoint, used by brokers, investment banks and market participants for execution and desktop market data, and Xplan, a financial advice and wealth management platform used by financial advisers, planning networks and superannuation providers to manage client portfolios, compliance and reporting. A third line, Sourcing (Xplan Mortgage, The Exchange, Lender Connect), serves UK mortgage and protection intermediaries. Iress differentiates itself from single-product trading vendors by covering the full workflow around a financial services firm, order and execution tools for traders, data and integration layers (the company cites over 200 integrations and 300 data feeds), and back-office adviser software, sold as an integrated stack rather than point solutions. Its customer base spans institutional and retail brokers, banks, asset managers and financial advice networks, concentrated in Australia, the UK and South Africa, with a smaller presence in Canada, New Zealand, Singapore and Continental Europe. This breadth (trading infrastructure plus wealth management software plus mortgage sourcing tools under one vendor) is the main way it is pitched against narrower competitors in each of those categories. The company traces to Dunai Financial Systems, founded in Melbourne in June 1993 by Peter Dunai, Neil Detering and Hung Do; its Iress branded equities product (Iress stands for Integrated Real-time Equity System) launched two years later. Bridge Information Systems acquired 80 percent of the business in 1997, forming BridgeDFS, which took the Iress name in 2001 as Iress Market Technology Limited. The company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange under ticker IRE in 2000 and is a member of the S&P/ASX 200. It grew through acquisitions including Xplan (2003), Avelo (2013) and OneVue Holdings (2020), and reported roughly 1,300 employees as of 2025. Andrew Russell, previously chief executive of Bravura Solutions and of Class Limited, became Iress group CEO and managing director in November 2025, succeeding Marcus Price. Iress has spent the past several years on a stated transformation program to concentrate on its core wealth management, trading and market data businesses and divest non-core units. As part of that, it sold QuantHouse, the low-latency market data and API trading infrastructure business it had acquired in 2019, to Vienna-based BAHA Tech Holdings in April 2025 for 31.4 million Australian dollars plus a five-year data supply agreement, which then-CEO Marcus Price described as completing the transformation program. For fiscal year 2026 the company has guided to revenue of 520 to 528 million Australian dollars.
