The LSE Directory / Trading software
MotiveWave is a desktop trading platform built in Java that combines advanced charting, technical analysis and live order execution in a single broker-neutral application. Its feature set spans order flow tools (volume imprint, bid/ask analysis, depth of market), market profile and TPO charts, Elliott Wave analysis (manual, guided and automated), more than 280 built-in indicators, a strategy backtesting and optimisation engine, and a replay mode for simulating historical markets. The software runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, with companion mobile apps for iOS and Android, and connects to more than 30 brokers and data feeds simultaneously, including Interactive Brokers, Charles Schwab, Rithmic, CQG, FXCM, TradeStation, Coinbase and Edge Clear. Within trading software, MotiveWave differentiates itself through depth of Elliott Wave and harmonic pattern tooling (Gartley, Gann, Fibonacci and ratio analysis) alongside professional order-flow features such as footprint charts and advanced DOM with market-by-order data, a combination the company positions as its most advanced offering on the market. Traders can write custom studies and automated strategies in Java using the MotiveWave SDK, and the platform's broker-and-data-feed-neutral architecture lets a single workspace maintain multiple live broker connections at once, a workflow aimed at active, professional and futures traders rather than casual retail users on a single-broker app. It is sold in tiered editions, from a free Community edition through Standard, Order Flow, EW Lite, PRO and Ultimate, under either an auto-renewing lease or a one-time perpetual licence with a year of included updates. The company was founded by Tony Lindsay, who remains its chief executive, and is a privately held, self-funded software business; the official site describes it as based in Toronto, Ontario, though earlier company materials referred to a Kelowna, British Columbia location. The platform's first public release dates to a May 2010 announcement, and MotiveWave now states it has more than 150,000 users worldwide. The company has issued a steady stream of version releases over the years, including a dedicated Linux build, a free Community Edition, and Barchart market-data integration, reflecting an incremental, self-funded development pace rather than venture-backed expansion. As of mid-2026 the platform is on version 7.x (build 7.0.27, released June 2026), with the company marketing "15 years of innovation" on its site and continuing to expand its supported broker and data-feed list, most recently emphasising order-flow and market-by-order depth tooling alongside its established Elliott Wave analysis suite.
