The LSE Directory / Trading software
Murex is a financial technology company that builds and sells MX.3, a single integrated software platform used by banks, asset managers, pension funds, insurers, corporates and energy and commodities traders to run trading, treasury management, risk management and post-trade processing across asset classes. Rather than stitching together separate systems for each function, MX.3 runs front office, back office and risk on one shared codebase and data model, and the platform is offered both on premises and as a SaaS product hosted on cloud infrastructure. The company's main differentiator is breadth on a single platform: MX.3 covers cross asset trading and sales, treasury, enterprise risk and compliance, post trade operations and finance, plus a dedicated energy and commodities trading and risk management (E/CTRM) line, so a client can run functions that competitors often split across separate products from one system. Customers range from large global banks and clearing houses down to regional banks, asset managers and public agencies; the company cites recent go lives at Helaba, Abanca Portugal and Banorte. Murex was founded in Paris in 1986 by Laurent Neel and Salim Edde after they identified a gap in real time risk tools for MATIF options trading, and Edde's brothers and a brother in law later joined the business, which has stayed independently and family held for close to four decades. Elias Edde became CEO in May 2024, with Maroun Edde as Executive Chairman. By the company's own 2026 figures, Murex employs about 3,400 people across 20 offices, including a Mumbai office opened in 2025, serves roughly 300 clients and 60,000 daily users in more than 60 countries, and invests around EUR 200 million a year in MX.3 development. It has ranked first in the IBSi Sales League Table's Wholesale Banking, Treasury and Capital Markets category for eight consecutive years running through 2026, and named clients include UBS, Bank of China, National Australia Bank and DBS Bank. The Truffle 100 ranking placed Murex as France's third largest software publisher in both 2016 and 2020, with reported revenue of EUR 460 million and EUR 569 million respectively for those years. In March 2026, Murex partnered with blockchain infrastructure firm Quant Network to embed Quant's Flow and Overledger programmable money infrastructure into MX.3, giving clients a route to issue, settle and manage tokenized deposits and digital bonds inside their existing trading, risk and post trade workflows instead of building separate blockchain infrastructure. The two companies framed the deal against tokenized real world assets surpassing USD 100 billion and live tokenization projects underway at institutions such as BlackRock, JPMorgan and DTCC.
