Zorro is a script-based algorithmic trading and strategy-research platform developed by oP group Germany GmbH, a software company registered in Ronneburg, Germany. The Zorro software has been in active development since 2012, according to the platform's own credits documentation. It combines a backtesting and simulation engine (the vendor states a full ten-year, tick-level backtest can complete in about 0.3 seconds) with a proprietary C-like scripting language called Lite-C, plus native support for standard C, C++, Python and R; a single script can be historically tested and then deployed live without being rewritten for execution. Zorro connects to brokers and data feeds spanning forex, stocks, futures, options, CFDs, ETFs and cryptocurrencies through broker and API bridges, including ones for Interactive Brokers' TWS platform and MetaTrader 4/5. Zorro's central differentiator against most retail backtesting tools is that strategy code runs at native C speed rather than through an interpreter. An independent review by Robot Wealth, published April 2020, benchmarked a ten-year, one-minute-bar backtest at roughly three seconds on Zorro, versus about 70 seconds on TradeStation and 110 to 155 seconds on MetaTrader and MultiCharts running the same test. The platform targets developer-literate independent traders and quantitative researchers rather than no-code users: it bundles machine-learning and statistics tooling, including R and Python bindings, directly inside the scripting environment, and includes a walk-forward optimizer the vendor says can train a twelve-parameter system in under 25 seconds. oP group Germany GmbH was incorporated on 2 September 2009 with EUR 25,000 in registered capital, per its entry in the German commercial register (Amtsgericht Hanau, HRB 92932). Felicitas Lotter is listed as managing director in that registry and as the company's CEO on its own site, alongside Johann Christian Lotter as CTO; the company's own materials describe it as family owned. Beyond the Zorro product, oP group takes on contract development of trading systems and states it has built close to 2,000 trading systems and other financial-analysis applications for clients including startup funds, trading institutions and universities. Zorro is distributed under a two-tier license: a free tier restricted to one natural person, one account and one machine, currently capped, per the vendor's published terms, at an annual trading profit of US$30,000 and a real-money account capital of US$15,000; and a paid Zorro S subscription that removes those caps, allows multiple accounts and installations, and enables bar periods as short as 1 millisecond for high-frequency use. The vendor's download page recorded 66,941 cumulative Zorro downloads at the time of this review. As of mid-2026 the current stable build is version 3.01.6, with 3.11.2 in public release-candidate testing and a 3.10.4 beta dated May 2025 also available. The vendor continues to extend free Zorro S access to active community contributors, for example users who post 30 or more substantial contributions to the Zorro forum or who supply open-source broker or data-feed API plugins written in C or C++.
